You know the summer is here when you see a huge variety of cold drinks, fruits, ice creams, iced tea and coffee being sold in every nook and shop on the streets. Even though nobody likes the sizzling heat of summer, we all like the sweet, creamy and delicious array of drinks it brings along. 


To give you 2 of those gems from the natural Indian drinks, India Garden has come up with the recipes. Check them out! 


Raita 


Raita or spices yogurt, call it whatever it’s a great way to make warmer days cooler, fresher and cozier. So here you go. 


Ingredients 


  • 2 cups plain yogurt 

  • 3 tbsp cumin seeds

  • Salt to taste

  • ½ cup chilled water

  • 1 grated cucumber (optional)


How to prepare


  1. In a hot skillet, put the cumin seeds and roast for 1-2 minutes by continuously stirring to get an even color from all sides.

  2. Let the cumin seeds cool down a few seconds and then grind them in a pestle and mortar and make a coarse powder.

  3. In a bowl, blend the yogurt and make it lump-free and smooth.

  4. Add salt and cumin powder and mix. (You can add grated cucumber at this stage if you like. If not, move to the next step.)

  5. Add ¼ cup of chilled water (Adjust the water quantity to get the desired consistency.) Mix everything well and it’s redux to serve.


Mango Lassi 


Made with two seasonal ingredients  - Mango, the king among fruits and yogurt, this drink is easy and keeps you breezy during the summers. As long as the summer begins, people start waiting for Mango to consume it in various ways possible. One of the delicious ways is by enjoying it as mango Lassi.


Ingredients 


  • 2 medium mangoes (peeled and pitted)

  • 1 cup yogurt 

  • Roughly chopped nuts (pistachios, cashews and raisins)

  • 2 tbsp sugar (or jaggery powder)

  • ½ cup chilled water


How to prepare


  1. In a blender, add the mangoes and sugar (or jaggery if you prefer) and blend it to get the smooth pulp. 

  2. Now add the yogurt into the blender with some chopped nuts.

  3. Add chilled water to the jar and blend it all well. 

  4. Transfer it into a glass and top it off with some chopped nuts.

  5. Serve chilled.
