Ingredients Required

Main ingredients

  • Spinach (steamed & pureed)

  • 2 lbs of chicken (mid-size pieces)

  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • ½ cup yogurt

  • 2 onions (chopped)

  • 3 tomatoes (puree)

Whole spices

  • ½ tsp black peppercorns

  • 1 small cinnamon stick

  • 2-3 cardamoms

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 3-4 cloves

Ground spices

  • 1 tsp coriander

  • ½ tsp red chili

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • ½ tsp garam masala

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil for cooking

Cooking Method

  1. In a bowl, take chicken and yogurt and add a little bit of all the ground spices with salt. Coat chicken well with yogurt and spices and keep it aside to marinate for at least half an hour.

  2. Take a pan, add some oil and place chicken pieces one by one into the pan to fry. Cook chicken pieces from both sides and transfer them to a bowl. In the same pan, heat the oil and add all the whole spices. Stir them for a minute on low heat and let them turn aromatic.

  3. Now add the ginger-garlic paste, sauté for a few seconds and add the onions. Fry onions for the next 4-5 minutes and then add tomato puree. Cook it on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Now you can add in all the ground spices. Mix all the ingredients well and sauté until the mixture leaves the oil on the edges.

  5. Add the fried chicken with a cup of water and mix it well together. Let the chicken cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes by covering the pan. Once the chicken is cooked, add the boiled and pureed spinach to it. Mix spinach with chicken well and let it cook on low heat for the next 2-3 minutes.

  6. Serve it in a bowl and enjoy it with naan or roti.
